How many porta potties do I need for a party?

A party of 50 guests for up to 4 hours needs 1 standard porta potty. Add 1 unit for every 50 more guests. For events longer than 4 hours, add 1 unit for every 2. If alcohol is served, add 1 unit for every 3. Add a hand wash station when food is served.

This chart uses our planning method: 1 unit per 50 guests for 4 hours, then whole-unit add-ons. Run your exact numbers in the porta potty calculator.

When will the porta potty be delivered for a weekend party?

A porta potty for a Saturday party is delivered on Friday, and a Sunday event unit is delivered Friday or Saturday. Pickup is Monday, the next business day. The extra days do not cost extra. Delivering early means the unit never shows up late or in the middle of your event.

Holiday weekends, May graduations and fall football Saturdays book up first. Reserve 1 to 2 weeks ahead for those dates. See the weekend and holiday porta potty schedule for every common date.

Where should the porta potty go at a backyard party?

A backyard party porta potty should sit on a level spot within about 30 feet of where the truck parks, with a 4-foot-wide path and no low branches or wires. Guests like it 50 to 100 feet from the food and seating, with the door facing away from the crowd.

  • Put the hand wash station beside the toilet, not by the food table.
  • Leave a porch light or solar stake light near it for evening events.
  • For church lots and parks, send the pavilion or building name and a photo of the spot.

More placement tips are in the porta potty delivery checklist.

Do public events need a wheelchair-accessible unit?

Public events should make at least 5% of portable toilets in each cluster wheelchair-accessible, with a minimum of 1, under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, section 213.2. A 20-unit festival therefore needs at least 1 accessible unit per cluster. Private backyard parties are not covered, but accessible units help older guests.

Source: 2010 ADA Standards §213.2. Your venue or permit office has the final say. See wheelchair-accessible porta potty rental.

Questions about event porta potty rental

Can you drop it off Saturday morning and pick it up Saturday night?

Same-day drop and pickup is not offered for events. The unit arrives the day before so it is ready when guests arrive, and it is picked up the next business day. You pay one event price either way.

Is one porta potty enough for a 75-person graduation party?

One unit works for 75 guests who come and go over 3 to 4 hours. If most guests stay the whole time or the party runs past 4 hours, book 2. Add a hand wash station if you are serving food.

Can I rent one so guests do not use the bathroom in my house?

Renting a unit for a house party is common, and it keeps your septic system and floors safe. One standard unit covers about 50 guests for 4 hours.

Do I need to be home for pickup?

Pickup does not need you there. Keep the path clear of cars and tables, and our driver will load the unit and leave the spot clean.

Can I add a second unit after I book?

Units can be added up to 24 hours before delivery, subject to availability. Holiday weekends sell out first, so add units early.
